We are exploring a series this week based on www.green3dhome.com and their tips to save energy and money. Each tip shows a savings percentage:
2.8% – Replace your old fridge even if it’s not broken. If your refrigerator is more than 10 years old, it uses 2 to 3 times the energy of a new Energy Star fridge. The average fridge and freezer consumes 8% of the total home energy bill.
1.9% – Buy a programmable thermostat as it lets you automatically adjust the temperature while you are work or sleep. If you turn it down 10 to 15° for eight hours, you will save 10% on your home heating.
1.8% – If you take a shorter shower you can save a bundle. The average American takes showers that last from 5 to 15 min. long. If you take one for 5 to 7 min. instead, you can reduce the energy used. In fact, hot water heating accounts for about 13% of the energy use in the average American home.
